Graduate-Level Clinical Practicum
Program Information
First off, thank you for your interest in the Clinical Practicum program. We are excited to offer this valuable clinical training opportunity to students in professional mental health training programs, including mental health counselors, social work, marriage & family therapy, etc. Please check in with your specific graduate program for clinical placement criteria.
Brief Overview:
The Clinical Practicum takes place with Cabezas Therapy, LCSW, PLLC, which is a dedicated private psychotherapy clinic serving the LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, ENM, polyamorous, Latinx, and kink communities of New York City. Our program recognizes the importance of providing affirming and inclusive care with examples of care around identity exploration, coming out processes, cross-class relationships, coping with discrimination or stigma-related stress, and the impact of systemic inequities, navigating relationship dynamics through a lens that affirms the diversity of relationship orientation styles, acculturation stress, interpersonal dynamics, and intergenerational trauma. Our program values diversity, and we invite passionate applicants to join us in making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Core Training Activities:
Our clinical practicum is designed to equip interns with foundational professional practice clinical skills through a intersectional lens. You will have the opportunity to develop proficiency in clinical evaluation and assessment, conduct psychotherapy across the lifespan (individual, groups, dyadic & couples), and provide intervention for patients with more nuanced and unique challenges. Additionally, you will learn to work with trauma, sex, and relationships, given the nature of our client population. The program also emphasizes cultural competency, allowing you to enhance your clinical sensitivity to values of diversity, including racial, cultural, religious, ethnic, disability, sexual orientation, gender, and class.
Training Program:
We offer 1-2 positions for graduate-level counseling and social work interns. The program runs aligned with the academic year, typically spanning from September to May. Time frames can be accommodated on a case to case basis.
The clinical schedule is during weekdays for clinical sessions and supervision.
