Individual Therapy in Brooklyn, NY For the person who's ready to get to know themselves — really know themselves
What people come to us forPeople arrive at therapy for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes it's something specific — anxiety that won't quit, depression that's settled in, a relationship that keeps falling apart the same way, a loss that's hard to move through. Sometimes it's harder to name than that. A sense of disconnection. A pattern you keep living out. The feeling that you've been surviving for so long you've forgotten what it feels like to actually live.
We work with:
Trauma — big T and little t, recent and long-carried
Anxiety and depression
Identity and self-discovery
Gender identity and gender transitions
Relationship patterns and attachment wounds
Grief and loss
Family of origin wounds
LGBTQ+ identity and experience
Racial identity and navigating systems of oppression
Neurodivergence — ADHD, autism, AuDHD
Life transitions — career, parenthood, immigration, loss of self
Whatever you're carrying, you don't have to figure it out alone.
Our approach — eclectic, evidence-based, and a little nerdy about it
We genuinely love the theory. Our clinicians draw from a rich, eclectic mix of frameworks — Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), person-centered practice, somatic approaches, and more — woven together with an intersectional feminist lens that keeps your full humanity at the center.
We don't pick one model and apply it to everyone. We read, we study, we stay curious — and we bring that curiosity into the room with you. Not to over-intellectualize your experience, but because understanding the why behind what's happening can be genuinely liberating.
We use what fits you. That's always the point. Like a DJ mixing various genres to create the environment.
FAQs
I've never done therapy before. Where do I even start? Right here is fine. You don't need to have your story organized or know exactly what you want to work on. Most people don't when they first reach out. The first conversation is just that — a conversation. We'll figure out the rest together.
How do I know if therapy is actually going to help me? Honestly, the research is pretty clear that therapy works — especially when there's a good fit between you and your therapist. That's why we do a free consultation first. The relationship matters more than any single technique or modality. We take matching seriously.
What's the difference between therapy and just talking to a friend? A good friend listens. A therapist listens and also helps you understand the patterns underneath what you're experiencing — where they come from, why they keep showing up, and how to actually change them. It's a different kind of conversation, with a different kind of purpose.
How long will I be in therapy? It depends on what you're working on and what you want from the process. Some people come for a few months around a specific transition or challenge. Others work with us for years and find ongoing value in it. We don't push long-term work on everyone — we talk about it openly and let you decide what feels right.
How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me? You'll feel it — or you won't, and that's okay too. A good therapeutic relationship feels safe, honest, and like you're actually being seen. If after a few sessions it doesn't feel right, we'd rather you tell us than keep going through the motions. We can rematch you within the practice or help you find someone outside of it.
Do I have to talk about my childhood? Not necessarily. Some approaches go there, others don't. We follow your lead. That said, we do work from a trauma-informed and attachment-based lens — which means we understand that early experiences shape current patterns. If and when your past becomes relevant, we'll explore it in a way that feels manageable, not overwhelming.
I'm not sure I have "real" trauma. Is therapy still for me? Yes. Trauma isn't a competition. There's big T trauma — the experiences everyone recognizes as devastating. And there's little t trauma — the quieter, more cumulative stuff that doesn't always get named but shapes you just as deeply. And beyond trauma entirely, therapy is for anyone navigating anxiety, depression, identity, relationships, transitions, or just wanting to understand themselves better. You don't have to have been through something dramatic to deserve support.
I've tried therapy before and it didn't work. Why would this be different? That's one of the most important things you can tell us. A lot of people have had experiences with therapy that felt generic, surface-level, or like the therapist just didn't get them. We take that seriously. Our eclectic, evidence-based approach means we're not doing one-size-fits-all therapy — and our matching process is designed to get you with someone who actually fits your needs, background, and what you're looking for.
Can therapy help with anxiety and depression? Yes — and there's a lot of evidence behind that. We work with anxiety and depression not just as symptoms to manage but as experiences that usually have roots worth understanding. Medication can be part of the picture too — we're happy to coordinate with your prescriber if that's relevant.
I'm questioning my gender identity. Can you help? Yes — fully and affirmingly. We work with people exploring gender identity, navigating transition, and processing everything that comes with that — personally, relationally, socially. You won't have to explain yourself or justify your experience here. We follow your lead entirely.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients? Yes — without qualification. We are a LGBTQ+ affirming practice. We understand that identity, culture, systemic oppression, and lived experience aren't separate from mental health — they're central to it.
Do you offer therapy in Spanish or Portuguese? Yes. We provide individual therapy in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Language should never be a barrier to good care.
How much does individual therapy cost? Sessions range from $50 to $500 depending on the clinician and type of service. We have providers across fee levels and a waitlist for sliding scale spots. If cost is a real concern, reach out — we'll figure out what's possible together.
Do you offer online therapy in New York? Yes. We offer virtual sessions across all of New York State. In person in Brooklyn or online — whatever works for your life.
How do I get started? Book a free 15-minute consultation through our contact page. Tell us a little about what's going on. We'll match you with the right therapist and take it from there. You don't have to have it figured out — that's what we're here for.
