Hello, I'm Julian/Julián
About Me
I wear different hats. Professionally, I am the Executive Director of Cabezas Therapy, a psychotherapist, practicum instructor, and clinical supervisor. I strive to support individuals and couples to contextualize their lives and navigate better relationships with compassion & curiosity. I have extensive experience working with adults in various areas, including infidelity, sexual difficulties, transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, communication, adult children of parents with mental health disorders (treated and untreated), LGBTQ communities, and psychedelic integration work. As a queer, trans, mixed race, latinx person, I intimately am aware of how polarizing people and just living off stereotypes can be devastating. Essentially, it's rigid thinking patterns and can be an indicator of mental stress. For over two decades, I have contributed to LGBTQ, BIPOC, latinx, women, and immigrant rights. I aim to help create a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system where everyone receives the support they need during critical and growing times. My pronouns are he/him/his.
I created Cabezas Therapy for connection. In a world that continues to be so polarizing, I want to demystify how to find compassion for ourselves and our loved ones. Cultivating intimacy, enhancing communication, overcoming depression, healing trauma, understanding our sexuality, navigating anxiety, etc. As a psychotherapist, I am dedicated to improving perinatal mental health by contextualizing within our work the policies and systemic racism that disproportionately affect women, queer, trans, non-monogamous individuals, and people from racial-ethnic minoritized backgrounds. I work with clients navigating common challenges such as anxiety, depression, donor selection, surrogacy, identity issues, relationship dynamics, and the complexities of preparing & then being in parenthood.
In my practice, I try to simplify the complicated. I use methods like Parts Work, Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and C.B.T. My approach is generally down-to-earth, warm, and nurturing while also being direct enough to meet you where you're at. We go beyond just diagnosing; it’s about understanding how the world outside our therapy room affects your life and working together to create real, meaningful improvements in your life. In a system that often prioritizes quick fixes, I focus on providing care that genuinely supports lasting change, both for individuals and as a community. I see every person and couple who comes to therapy as a piece of a whole that is getting care.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to connect and explore how we can work together toward a more meaningful and fulfilling life. I am able to see clients in NY & CA.
